Miami Iron Side was masterminded by founder, Ofer Mizrahi who had a vision of a sustainable village concept.  It’s been a seven year project that’s grown to 60 tenants and continues to expand daily.  I’m thrilled Ofer is hosting my Wok Star cooking class at Coverings, etc.
Hope to see you there!

HOH WOK CLUB: Little Lotus

August 27, 2011 By Eleanor Hoh 3 Comments

Join me, Wok Star Eleanor Hoh at my upcoming HOH WOK CLUB gathering (it’s a sorta Asian supper club) at Little Lotus, Saturday Sept.17…Great way to meet people who share the love of food and always a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
Little Lotus is such a cozy Japanese & Indonesian Tapas restaurant in downtown Miami. They opened not that long ago, you can read my restaurant review. They’ve been featured on ABC, Ocean Drive, Urban Daddy, Daily Candy, New Times, Miami Herald, etc.

If you are my newsletter subscriber, you had first dibs getting in before I made this event public. You can subscribe in the right side bar. Anyway, CALL NOW because there’s only 38 seats for this event, details below. Well, I don’t know what the last count was.

WOW! What a GREAT DEAL for 38 lucky people on a first come, first served basis!

Sat. September 17, 12:30pm – 2:30pm
$25 incl. tips and tax. Drinks not included, cash bar, separate check.
Little Lotus Restaurant, downtown Miami
Here’s the lowdown:
1. Call 305-533-2700 and ask for manager, Andi
2. Mention Wok Star Event: Sept. 17
3. How many in your group? They will try and accommodate you as best they can but it’s a tiny restaurant, so you may not sit together. It’s a good time to meet new people!
4. Prepay with your credit card
5. Provide your email AND telephone number (this is ESSENTIAL in case there’s last minute announcements and we need to get hold of you.)
The team, Andi, Chef Nyoman, Sari and Chef Michael helped me create this exotic and tantalizing menu with dishes from Japan, Indonesia and Malaysia. I know you’ll LOVE it and want to go back and try more dishes from the talented chefs. And if you can’t make this gathering, you can always go on your own and tell them Wok Star sent you.
Here’s the incredible 5 course menu we put together for you!

Appetizers

– Salmon Bola: Baked Salmon with seaweed salad.
– Crispy Bok Choy: Deep Fried Chips with garlic sauce.

Second Course

HOH WOK CLUB – INDOMANIA, July 12

July 23, 2010 By Eleanor Hoh 4 Comments

HOH WOK CLUB – INDOMANIA July 12, 2010

My first HOH WOK CLUB gathering in 2010 after a few year’s hiatus was at Indomania for an intimate sit-down Rijsttafel, Monday July 12. It was a huge success, so much so we are having a second one for those who couldn’t get in. Hope to see you then, details below.
We had a very interesting group with entertainment attorneys, numerous wine enthusiasts, the South Florida Foodies
(I am honored to be a member of, it is by invitation only, not sure you can even see their Facebook page if you’re not a member), a judge, NPR, PR, travel writer, even a VIP, Jon Secada who came with a group of 9. We received wonderful feedback the next day to say how much everyone enjoyed it. Food is only a part of it, the company is what makes sharing the food so much more delightful.

Indomania owners: Isabel flanked by parents, Pieter an Chef Ineke

Rijsttafel is a ‘rice table’ with lots of delectable dishes, full menu below. Chef Ineke created a special 12-dish Rijsttafel to give guests a little taste of Indonesia, see menu below.
Growing up in Hong Kong, I remember my mom’s Malaysian dishes which are very similar to those from Indonesia, so I am thrilled to find this charming restaurant in a low key part of Miami Beach.
After many visits to Miami, Chef Ineke and husband Pieter from Holland were finally able to realize their dream and open their own restaurant. They designed their restaurant as if it was their own dining room: small and cozy with intriguing Indonesian photographs on the walls and batik tablecloths.

Chef Ineke’s 12-dish Rijsttafel Menu:Snacks with drinksKropok: shrimp crackersShrimp wontons with sweet, chili dip
Emping with peanut sauce
Appetizer:Gado Gado, salad with tofu, french beans, egg, beansprouts
and cabbage with a peanut/coconut dressing
Sateh Ayam, skewer with grilled chicken
Beef Semor: braised beef in a sweet soy sauce
Ayam bumbu Bali: Balinese spiced chickenBabi Medan: slow cooked porc with ginger, lime leaves and lemon grassAtjar Tjampoer: sweet and sour pickled vegetables

Sayur Lodeh: mixed vegetables in a coconut broth

Gulay Telor: curried eggs

Toasted coconut and peanuts (sprinkle on everything)

Noodles

Nasi Kuning: yellow rice steamed with lemon grass and galanga– —
Rudjak: Indonesian fruit saladBlack rice pudding with coconut milk

Is this how it looks when foodies go out to eat? 5 cameras snapping:
Jen’s food shots were great, mine were a bit dark.Take a look at our Facebook pages for more photos.

Indomania hosted a fantastic dinner party on Miami River Wall and got videotaped by Fox Style File TV!
NEXT EVENT: Indomania, August 16
