Miami Food Blogger Bake Sale
Saturday April 28

South Miami Farmers’ Market
Only 2 weeks to raise funds!

Miami’s own Renee Joslyn, blogger at Flamingo Musings is the Miami team captain heading up a bake sale to end childhood hunger.  Lots of local businesses and chefs have donated to this wonderful cause with gift cards from Harry’s Pizzeria, Whisk Gourmet Food & Catering, Crave Restaurant and includes a class gift certificate for 2 from Wok Star, that’s me!  Renee, herself has donated a gift basket of her Freakin’ Flamingo’s wonderful micro-batch jams & gift items. (I’ve had the pleasure of tasting numerous jars and now cannot buy commercial ones. I am going to order some for gifts right now!)  There are many ways you can contribute or buy a raffle for a chance to win those gift cards!   Click to see how you can help end child hunger.

Can’t believe Rum Renaissance is here again!  This wonderful family, Robert & Robin Burr and son, Rob put on the largest rum festival with lots of rum related events throughout the weekend. I don’t even drink rum and went last year and it was pretty fun to see all the shenanigans going on. Details here.

Lunch Hour Movie
premiers at Palm Beach Film Festival
Wednesday, April 18

Lunch Hour examines America’s national school lunch program which exposes children to unhealthy, but culturally acceptable foods at a young age.
Anyone who has children need to see this documentary, see the trailer, see the clips and get more information on how to get involved, click here. Join their Facebook page, twitter for latest updates.
This is such an important topic and I hope to get more involved this year. I’ve been invited to teach classes for parents and kids at Cooking with Kids, a school my friend Maria Cummins opened to educate kids and at the same time make cooking fun and healthy.

Gibson Miami host Benefit

March 6, 2012 By Eleanor Hoh 1 Comment

Gibson Show Benefit for the Cindy Kidney Fund
$10 cover…all you can drink
This Saturday, March 10th
Doors open 8pm…show starts 9pm
showcasing Rock ‘n’ Roll sensation, Poetic Justice with Brad Berman
during Wynwood Art Walk

Go for a good cause, rock n’roll music, all you can drink and fantastic chance to get inside Gibson showroom! It’s not normally open to the general public.  Gibson’s new showroom is opposite the Cynergi Building in Wynwood. Brad Berman, their project coordinator has such a big heart, his band will be playing to raise funds for a kidney transplant for friend, Cindy.  Gibson will be hosting some future Wok Star events there, so stay tuned (got the pun?)

Go a bit earlier to view some incredible wall murals outside.

See signed guitars by celebrities, tour recording rooms, view some LeBo art and hang out.

Here’s the plan, go early to Wynwood, see some art, stop for some nosh at food trucks in Wynwood.  Some other nosh ideas:

– Sakaya Kitchen for anything in a bao, it’s fast, all good!
(my go to modern Asian that never disappoints!  My suggestions here and here, enjoy!)
– Gigi’s for some noodle dish
(here’s a very early post, since then I’ve had a few quite delicious noodle dishes & I heard their duck fried rice is delish! Another foodie friend @frodnesor take on Gigi!)
– Lost and Found Saloon for fabulous burrito
(my new twitter/blogger friend @fatgirlhedonist said all the things I would have said about their food & saloon.)
– Jimmy Z’s Kitchen right opposite Gibson
(not eaten there but heard healthy, good. Here’s my foodie friend @foodalogue, Joan’s post which makes me want to go NOW!  Joan also reflects my same philosophy about not not using recipes or measuring, I love her writing and her experiments are creative and thought provoking, check her blog!)

Then hop over to Gibson for the all night rock n’ roll with Poetic Justice!  See you there…

Gibson Miami Showroom (in the Dorissa Bldg.)
2751 N. Miami Ave. Suite 8
Miami, FL 33127
door on 27th st. side of the bldg will be open
free street parking all round
