About Ellen Kanner…(extract from Seed’s talent bio)
Ellen Kanner is the author of Feeding the Hungry Ghost: Life, Faith and What to Eat for Dinner, VegNews’ 2013 Book of the Year, PETA’s debut Book of the Month Club pick, Huffington Post’s Meatless Monday blogger, syndicated columnist Edgy Veggie which appears in Miami Herald,  and vegan writer for numerous publications. Find out more about Ellen here.
So many things in Ellen’s book reflect my philosophy of cooking with what you have and my visual roadmap approach to cooking!  I love your humor and laid back attitude towards vegan cooking.  I especially liked, “Sometimes while you’re following a recipe on the road to dinner, you find side paths, back roads that beckon and lead you to new places. Feel free to try a different vegetable, another herb…Go, explore.  Strike out on your own. Honor yourself and your own taste. Trust your gut.”  Amen.

Ingrid Hoffmann, Latin D’Lite: Delicious Latin Recipes with a Healthy Twist
Hoffmann re-imagines your favorite Latin American dishes to offer healthy alternatives that are still full of bold flavors. Featuring more than 150 classic Latin recipes, Hoffmann adds her signature touch, introducing readers to healthy ingredient substitutions that are light and fresh in a few simple steps. The key to making the lifestyle change to healthy eating is using the right seasonings and ingredients that will give your food the flavors you want.  An example of this is substituting mayonnaise in a coleslaw to lime juice or baking codfish balls instead of frying them.
Whether you’re craving tacos or tostones, Hoffmann delivers dishes that’s sure to please.  She still includes an indulgent recipe to allow for occasional splurges while maintaining these healthy changes.
Ingrid Hoffmann is an international food and television personality, restauranteur, and host of Cooking Channel’s Simply Delicioso and Univision’s Delicioso. Latin d’lite is a fully illustrated, easy-to-follow cookbook that offers a healthy spin on modern Latin cuisine.  If you don’t win and interested in buying her book, click here!
EleanorHoh-IngridHoffmanShe’s a serious food lover who lives in Miami and I’ve had the honor of meeting her on several occasions through a foodies group and earlier this year, she spoke at the Women’s Success Summit to coincide with the launch of her latest cookbook, Latin d’lite!  I loved hearing how she started from scratch against all odds, so inspiring.
I can’t wait to experiment with her healthy Latin dishes in my wok and put my personal spin on them. I see Pork and Chicken Paella, p.163 which woks perfectly, I’ve made many paellas in my day!  Or Basque Style Chicken p.132 woking really well, umm.  Visit her site for all the other great stuff she does, always reinventing.
You can catch Ingrid on Saturday and Sunday at the Miami Book Fair, here’s schedule!

Manuel Villacorta, Peruvian Power Foods: 18 Superfoods, 101 Recipes and Anti-Aging Secrets from the Amazon to the Andes
Villacorta traveled to his native Peru and spoke with locals from across the country to learn about the incredible health and lifestyle benefits of “superfoods” native to the Amazonian jungles and the Andinian valleys and highlands. He returns with over 100 recipes, each with less than 6 steps, introducing all 18 incredible edible superfoods in healthy and hearty dishes one can easily prepare at home. Villacorta makes eating healthy an adventure, enlightening foodies and home cooks to experiment with fruits like the pichuberry, rich in vitamins and antioxidants, and the camu camu, which packs more than 60 times the vitamin C in your average orange. Watch his promo video below!
QuinoaPichberrySalad_14-15I picked this book to giveaway because I know so many of us struggle with trying to be healthy and not knowing how to go about doing it that still satisfies our cravings and bad habits.  I share Villacorta’s wonderful philosophy on his site, Eating Free, go check it out!  If you don’t win his book, you can buy here!
Villacorta, MS, RD, is a dietician, author, and the founder of Eating Free, an international weight management and wellness program. Born and raised in Peru, Villacorta lives in San Francisco and contributes to the Huffington Post health blog, Univision, and Fox News Latino.

For all street food fans, Gutierrez will be appearing Saturday, Nov.23, 1:30pm to talk about her book, Latin American Street Food. Click here for details.
I’ve always enjoyed street food in Asia and prepared this successfully for friends recently, all served on banana leaves laid out on newspaper! Oh what joy not to have to wash curry stained tablecloth, post coming soon.  I can’t wait to try Sandra’s stews in my wok, I’m not too good with making empanadas or any baked goods.
Norman Van Aken, No Experience Necessary: The Culinary Odyssey of Chef Norman Van Aken,
The creator of New American cuisine recounts a twenty-year saga, from the graveyard shift at an all-night barbeque joint to a James Beard award finalist for best restaurant in America. No Experience Necessary offers a uniquely personal, highly-entertaining under-the-tablecloth view of the high stakes world of American cuisine told with wit, insight, and great affection by a natural storyteller.  Norman Van Aken is known as the founding father of New World Cuisine, a celebration of Latin, Caribbean, Asian, African, and American flavors. He is also known internationally for introducing the concept of “Fusion” to the culinary world. The only Floridian inducted into the Norman & Emerilprestigious James Beard list of “Who’s Who in American Food and Beverage.”

Not only is Norman Van Aken’s culinary career astonishing, but his personal journey is perhaps even more amazing. He is completely self-taught as a chef, and he is perhaps the most literary-focused culinarian in America. This wonderful book brilliantly documents his extraordinary odyssey.
— Charlie Trotter, James Beard Award-winning chef and author

Note: Sadly, Chef Charlie Trotter passed away this past week.

Van Aken will be appearing Sat. Nov.23 at 1pm, click here for full details. Visit his site for more details.
Last year, I gave away his book, My Key West Kitchen to one of his hundreds of fans! I can’t believe he put this book together so quickly. Where does he find time to write, travel doing book tours and take care of  Tuyo, his restaurant atop the Miami Culinary Institute in downtown Miami?  Norman and I go way back to Key West, when I used to live right next to his office and I was not even involved in food yet.
