MIAMI SPICE
August 1 – September 30
Miami-Spice

Miami Spice is here! It’s a great way to get introduced to restaurants you normally would find a bit pricey. Lunches run $23 and dinner $39 for 3 courses.  Be sure you reserve and mention Miami Spice menu and notice the list on their site is divided for lunch and dinner! Not all restaurants are doing both.
We were invited to a tasting at Quality Meats and it was off the charts! This restaurant would be my top pick if you are an carnivore!  Here’s what I thought about it!
Also check New Times and Miami Herald for their take on Miami Spice!
Another of my favs is Hakkasan not so much for their dim sum since they already do a super weekend dim sum lunch for about the same price but for dinner, it’s a steal!  Take a look at my last HOH WOK CLUB gathering at Hakkasan for Chinese New Year Yum Cha and everyone adored it, what a deal.

It’s a gathering at restaurants for folks who enjoy Asian culture and cuisine. I work with the chef and come up with a tasting sampler that reflects their cooking style and at a great value.

Lemoni Pizza & Kitchen

August 5, 2015 By Eleanor Hoh Leave a Comment

I wish there were more restaurants like Lemoni Pizza & Kitchen and its sister restaurant 2 doors down, Lemoni Cafe in Buena Vista! It is so cozy and you feel like you’re in a European cafe! There’s loads of choices for omnivores and vegetarians, even vegans! What’s very amusing about these sister restaurants is that you can order from either menus and they will bring the food over to you!  Take a peek at Lemoni Pizza’s vast menu. I will be writing about Lemoni Cafe as well! Just be aware their weekend brunch menu is not the same as weekday menu. Their daily lunch specials are under $10, can’t be beat!
Lemoni-Pizza-collageThe chef partners Maria from Argentina and Assia from France but Moroccan descent are fantastic at making their food so tasty using simple ingredients! They call it ‘conscious cuisine’, I really appreciate that. It’s like home cooking.
Because my hubby enjoys meat, I ordered skirt steak Chimchurri and we were not disappointed. The stuffed portobello appetizer was a beautiful presentation with tomato, goat cheese and kale with a side of Greek Salad. Wow, that was magic, I am salivating just thinking about it!
Our friend ordered pizza with lamb sausage and tzatziki sauce, it was dynamite. I’ve never had a pizza with wet sauce but it worked and extremely appetizing, you need to try this!
One lovely way to end your dinner is to hop over to Buena Vista Chocolate for some freshly made dark chocolate or go next door to The Embassy for some music!
We love these few blocks in Buena Vista, go visit soon!

How to clean crust and restore cast iron wok

July 19, 2015 By Eleanor Hoh 4 Comments

Never fear if a little crust forms when cooking in your cast iron wok! Sometimes, when you use fermented ingredients like tamari or high sugar content like onions, they can form a little crust. If you don’t scrub off properly, 3 things happen:

  1.  the crust prevents heat getting to your food
  2.  the crust makes your wok smoky
  3.  the crust hardens and becomes thicker and thicker

Here’s my short, 2 1/2 min. video shows you how to scrape the crust off, wash it out and restore your cast iron wok, so easy.
Let me know in the comments if you’ve come across this and what you were cooking when it happened?  If you try my method, did it work for you?
