Consulate General of Japan in Miami

Sushi-making Demonstration and Tasting

This is an official event that is sponsored by the Consulate General of Japan in Miami, and it is free and open to the public. The host will be sushi chef and owner of Toshi’s Koume Japanese Restaurant in Sunrise, Mitsutoshi Sekita. Mr. Sekita is an experienced demonstrator who was the Master of Ceremonies at the 2009 Sushi Master’s Competition in Miami, which occurred during the consulate’s Japan Week and was sponsored by the California Rice Commission.  Mr. Sekita is also a former consulate staff member who was particularly well-known for his memorable school visits around Miami Dade and Broward counties.
This event is being held to encourage an interest in Japanese culture and cuisine as well as to promote outreach and communication between the consulate and the local community.

Hatsume Fair

Morikami Museum

Celebrating the first bud of spring, The Morikami’s largest annual event, Hatsume, transforms the normally tranquil Morikami Park into a unique Japanese spring festival. Hatsume Fair features three stages with continuous entertainment including taiko drummers, a Japanese tea ceremony, martial art demonstrations, bonsai demonstrations, and much more. Also included are avenues of artisan booths, plant sales, Asian and American food vendors and children’s activities.

Deering Estate Seafood Festival

A one-day only food emporium is created on Seafood Alley with shrimp, lobster, oysters, conch, crab and other treasures from the sea that are broiled, boiled, steamed, fried, seared or sautéed. To fully experience the Deering Seafood Festival many guests plan to spend the day.

Cocktail Party for a good cause

Please join Pepe, of Pepe Calderin Design and many other designers for this very good cause to build 12 homes for families living in extreme poverty.  A cocktail party will be held at Ornare, a beautiful kitchen design showroom in the Design District. There’ll be amazing auction items to help raise funds including my Wok Workshop gift certificate for 2 guests.

Pepe Calderin Design is the showroom that hosts my Wok Workshops, so of course I want to support their cause. Hope you’ll come and be a part of this special project.  RSVP to info.usa@techo.org

“THE MID-AUTUMN RECEPTION HONORING CONFUCIUS”


The South Florida Shandong Association has announced that multiple Emmy-Award winning broadcast and print journalist, Julia Yarbough, will be co-hosting “The MId-Autumn Reception Honoring Confucius” which will be held on Sunday, September 23rd 2012, at the FIU North Campus, Wolfe University Center, Ballroom 3pm – 5pm.  Mid-Autumn is a traditional time for family gatherings in China, so there could be no better time for the entire South Florida family to come together and enjoy delicious chinese mooncake and celebrate the life, work and ideas of Confucius.
Come and join the Chinese Consulate General of China, Mayors of Miami, Doral, North Miami Beach, Senators, Members of Congress, and representatives of Chinese associations at the Mid-Autumn Festival Reception Honoring Confucius.

The Beach Channel presents the First Annual TASTE OF THE BEACH & End of Summer Block Party, a 2 day outdoor community event that will celebrate and feature culinary creations from Miami Beach restaurants and eateries in company with local businesses, museums, and performing arts organizations.
We invite the community, family, friends, and visitors to come out and enjoy a showcase of great food, music, arts, and entertainment in the beautiful beachside setting of Collins Park and the front lawn of the BASS Museum of Art.

South Florida Dragon Boat Festival

A one- day Asian cultural festival that brings together the entire South Florida community for a cultural experience that promotes harmony and understanding among people of all ages, diverse ethnicities and backgrounds.
The South Florida Dragon Boat Festival draws hundreds of competitors, thousands of spectators and an abundance of excitement and cultural experiences. The dragon boat competition illustrates camaraderie, teamwork and inspiration. Dragon Boat Racing was born out of a 2,000-year-old Chinese legend, and it’s still very active, as it remains a tradition to this day.  The opening ceremony will be held at 12 noon to kickoff the cultural program.

Fire Up The Wok Challenge

Locations:
Times Square, New York, NY
Time:
Thursday, September 27, 2012, 7pm-8pm

Format:

Five top chefs will each be assigned to cook the same Chinese dish. A simple description of the dish, along with ingredients and Chinese cooking facilities will be provided. Each Chef will be assigned a specially designed kitchen and one examiner for the cooking process. The event will be broadcast globally, live from Times Square.
